Day Fourteen
On the subject of advertising’s demise:
I have read several articles on the end of advertising, propagated by the techno-crats who claim that the Internet is the great demolisher. That the Internet changed the methods of information exchange is undeniable, but that advertising is dead? It’s laughable. The graffiti artist Banksy explains in his book Wall and Peace, that advertisers shove their agenda in our faces, use government channels to protect their interests, and although public space may be pimped out, public resistance is outlawed. This TED talk, is about the role of peer to peer news, and the changing nature of information relations. When put together, it is hard for me to believe that advertising can’t develop in turn.
When contemplating this changing environment, I am trying to focus in on an appropriate mascot for the PAC Brand. Due to its role in starting my project, and my appreciation for this form of social critique I believe that the spray paint can deserves some credit. I have also been tempted to play with Angels, magnifying glasses, monocles, and obviously my face. I have been trying to make a mascot that I am willing to put on my site, my shirt, and my work. Still, I need a solid and well rounded character. As of now, my shirt is looking to combine my “celebrity” endorsement, and the representative of PAC, the “paint-PAC”.
On a separate note, as networking developed the Internet, why haven’t we seen more computer development? Where is the program that gives my laptop, my companion a personality? Obviously it would be simulated, instead of realism, it should respond to the user, and attempt to be helpful. Clearly an undertaking, we should branch out our basic computer setup. Screw files, I want swatches of colored, relevant programs/info.
