This is my final project… It is VERY long. however, I feel like i couldn’t cut anything out without losing something. I guess it is a sort of narrative done with images of me, and images that are important to me.

Here is my narrative… I think I would have liked it better if i filmed it better, but i wanted to show the difference between my life here, and what my life would have been like in South Africa. I think i want to write a novel one day and talk about this.

Call me conservative, but I thought that David Rees’ lecture was extremely offensive. His humor was crass, and I feel that his political agenda could have been voiced in a more eloquent way. My mother would have walked out within the first 5 minutes. I guess I am not used to adults speaking like that… and the jokes about abortions etc…. just not the kind of thing I like to waste my time on. He kept emphasizing that he was an artist… however this struck a discord with me, as I would not consider him to be an artist, but rather a comic with a political agenda.

However, I did appreciate the David Rees lecture as it showed me something that I was not accustomed to. It was different, and even if I don’t agree with things, I think it is important to hear everyone’s point of view!

These clips made me think of found sound in a completely new way. It would be interesting to see how we would do another project if we could only use found sound….. in a way that those videos did. I especially liked the one where the shoes were clip clopping in Tokyo. The sound really added to the meaning of the clips and helped focus the attention of the viewer, rather than what I did in my previous Impact of Jaws project where I felt that the soundtrack detracted from the intended meaning.

I thought the bran flakes clips was a little disturbing and eeiry. But I really liked the visual effects and the way that the image faded in and out.

I consider my family to be predominately Republican…. I have also always thought myself to be a Republican. Although for this year’s presidential election, I realized that what our country needs most is a change. In my travels over my junior year throughout Europe, South Africa, and the Seychelles, I realized how important the US president is to the rest of the world. Over pizza in the Seychelles, I spoke with a family about how much they would love to see Obama in office. When Obama made his acceptance speech, the moment felt right.

I have heard many people say that McCain’s speech was his best of the entire campaign. It was a moment where we truly saw him as a man, as opposed to merely The Republican Candidate for the Presidency.

Obama’s speech brought up a lot of emotions for me, which I am sure I shared with the majority of all citizens of the world watching that man take the stage as not only the first black President of the United States, but also as a beacon of hope for the future of our country. As his campaign promised “Obama for change,” I really felt that so many people were inspired for his message and really believed in his promise.

It will be interesting to see how he carries out his proposals for this country in the next few months.
