TO DO over the weekend

2 10 2008

All:

Over the weekend I would like you to do the following:

1. RESEARCH FOR the CURRENT PROJECT and PUBLISH

A. What will you do, how and why?
Figure out what you want to express/investigate through the current STILL to MOTION project and be able to explain why and what your intentions are. Write about it. If you have an impulse to do X and do not know why, write about it to clarify.

B. Research precedents
Do some research on what has been done in the same vein. Maybe browse youtube for some clips that are similar to your intention or visual impulse.

C. Consider your options

Consider and write about and/or post examples of the most literal way that you could do what you want as well as the most vague (hard vs. soft sell) as I mentioned a few posts ago.  PLEASE NOTE: just because I am asking you to consider the polar ends of your visual choices does not mean that you are expected to be pursuing some kind of political or “message-y” or critical topic. If you need to go back and look at the student examples on the art department site. You will see that there is a wide variety of work and “messages” there.

D. Publish all of the above as a blog post.
The sooner you do this, the sooner that you will get feedback. I will be checking in over the next few days. *** contribution points for students who insightfully comment on classmates’ project ideas.

2. CONCEPTUALIZE A TIMELINE
Start thinking in terms of a timeline and chunking different aspects of your project.
Make notes if necessary.

3. COLLECT/SHOOT/SCAN IMAGERY
Start collecting/taking images like mad. Better to have more than you need than fewer.
Please, however do not begin building your project until Monday when I will be discussing the Animation Palette and other animation features in PS (something that I have never used and is new to CS3). You can read about it and print it ahead of time here:

4. CATCH UP TECHNICALLY – ASAP!!!!
Read for understanding the handout on Photoshop that I gave most of you yesterday (because you possibly id not read it or did not have it printed for reference…ahem….) particularly from the beginning (workspace) to the pages on scanning, though especially the section on tools. The best thing to do would be to play with PS and try out the different tools. AGAIN all of this information is online and can be found here: http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/Photoshop/10.0/

Okay…. I think that is it. Get researching and thinking! :)
