feeds and email subscriptions
I use www.feedburner.com for my blog feeds. Also, I use their service to offer and manage my email subscriptions.
Email subscriptions are useful when you have readers who do not check in on your blog on a regular basis. Once they subscribe for email updates, every time you add a new POST (not page, at least I am pretty sure of this) they will receive an email of that post including a link to your blog. Much like RSS, but better, in my opinion.
So, register your blog and make sure that you do all of the necessary activation needed. Feedburner offers some HTML code that generates a button within your blog, but I thought that it looked ugly, so I made my own “button” in LINKS.
Here is how to do the same:
1. register and activate your feed at feedburner.com
2. in your blog, create a link category called SUBSCRIBE
2. in your blog, create a correlating link named “click here to get email updates” etc.
3. then use the following for the link URL. NOTE that the pink text is my feed ID, you will have to insert your own once you get it from feedburner.
