The 2012 Next Step Visit Day at St. Lawrence University was a HUGE success! Thank you to all who made it the fantastic, enjoyable, gorgeous, perfect day that it was, including all SLU and high school students, the SLU Baila group, and all associated staff. We had a higher attendance than ever before, both by CBL students, volunteers AND our lovely high school students.
We will keep you posted on our plans for next year’s visit…it will be even bigger and better than this year’s (if that’s possible?!)!
Hello, past, present, and future Next Step-pers! We will be holding our annual St. Lawrence University Visit Day on Friday, April 20th, from 1:30-5:00 pm. Students from Potsdam Central, Colton-Pierrepont Central, and Norwood-Norfolk Central Schools will be invited to partake in some fun activities, good company, and an exciting tour.
Our tentative itinerary is as follows:
1:30pm – Bookstore Rendezvous and Ice Breaker
1:45pm – Start campus tour with admissions
2:45pm – End tour
3:00pm – Extra events: options of rock-climbing, observing a sporting event, board games or sports, or listening to a concert.
4:00pm – Close extra events and head over to Whitman BBQ pit to make S’mores!
4:30pm – Gift bag and certificate presentations
4:45pm – Walk students back to bookstore and leave for the day
5:00pm – Officially close visit day event

Spots for volunteers to join Next Step for the Spring semester are now open!
You must be available every Friday from 1:15pm-4:15pm. Spots are limited, so please email either Lauren Stemler (email@example.com) or Rebekah White (firstname.lastname@example.org) before Wednesday, January 25th if interested. We will ask you to answer a few questions and meet with us to go over the calendar for the semester.
If you have questions about the program or want to find out more about Next Step, check out our blog and send us an email.
Plans are currently underway for the second College Night where we will bring the Next Step students at all three high schools to SLU and treat them to a night filled with information on how to apply to college, how to finance college, and what to do once you get there! We will be having a guest panel from members of a CBL course as well as some extra surprises to be announced as the date gets closer. Hope to see you there!
First day of classes at St. Lawrence University…and that means that the Next Step Mentoring Program will begin shortly!
The current CMs for Next Step include veteran Lauren Stemler, working as a volunteer for the program while also holding down the fort in the CCE, Rebekah White, Alex King and Liz Choiniere. We are very excited to begin work at our placements of Norwood-Norfolk, Potsdam and Colton-Pierrepont Schools, starting, hopefully, the week of September 12. Hooray!
