What I want to learn/Proposal Draft
Posted on January 28th, 2009 at 7:54 pm by sjrodr06 and

- Final Cut/Video editing in general

- Illustrator

- Working with text (mainly because I had an internship with a graphic designer last summer and she told me that it was very important for me to know how to work with it for getting-work purposes.

- Webdesign; designing layouts, flash websites, blog layouts, etc.

- Setting up an online store/utilizing and finding resources to print designs

-Cartooning/Comic design

I dunno what else, I’ll think about it.

About Me
Posted on January 28th, 2009 at 6:53 pm by sjrodr06 and

Your name: Samantha Jo Rodriguez
Do you have a nickname? Sam
What is you major/minor and year? Fine Arts (Studio) and I’m a junior
What is your interest in digital media? Everything…but mostly graphic design, cartooning/animating, and shopping/selling online
What practical experience do you have in digital media? Name any and all.  I can work with Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, iMovie, Alittle bit of final cut, I use blogger.com regularly (though it’s private so I can’t show you), I attempt to manage my mom’s organization’s website as well as run the website for my youth group, uhm…I’m pretty into sim games online, so if it’s good I’m probably signed up or at least know about it, there’s probably more, I nerd out over these things–oh yeah I have a deviantart account that I started way back in middle school chococat101.deviantart.com
What types of digital hardware do you own? Computer, camera, etc.  Currently on campus all I have is my camera and my external harddrive (ipod too if it counts), at home I have a pc and an old graphire tablet pen and pad, and at my “job” I work on a mac and use a new bamboo tablet pen and pad (until recently because some idiot stole the pen)
What art classes have you taken? Printmaking, Intro, Digital Media I, Soft Sculpture (which included screenprinting), and this semester I’m taking this class and ceramics
How much time per week do you spend watching television? At home, most of the day if I have nothing else to do.  Away from home, almost never.
- youtube? Not much time, every once and awhile if a song is stuck in my head or to see a friend’s video
- on facebook? I check at least once a day, more if I’m bored and have time.
What do you like to make art about? I’m trying to figure that out myself.  I really don’t know what my “style” is, but I have noticed that I like to make “cute” things–but not sugary sweet.  Cute and creepy would be best I think, like stuffed eyeballs (http://chococat101.deviantart.com/art/Members-of-the-Eyeball-Army-107495340).  I like cute things, I’m into the whole kawaii culture heavily influenced by shoujo manga and anime, but I like variety too.  The same theme gets boring after awhile.
What do you like reading about (for education, for pleasure or for no good reason)? Fantasy and sci-fi mostly when it comes to books, but I like japanese comic books too, shonen mostly–the ones meant for boys, because the shoujo/girl’s manga is SOOO dramatic (although their clothes are usually really cute and magicalgirl’s freakin’ kickass)
What do you like thinking about in general? Being able to make a living doing something I like and what I need to do to make it happen.  Since that’s all art related I tend to try and come up with new ideas to try and create.
What is digital culture and how has it impacted your life. Be specific and thoughtful.  Digital culture to me is hard to define because it has been so heavily ingrained in my life.  I first started using the interent when I was 8 years old, and before then I was very involved with kids computer games.  The only way I can try and define digital culture is when I compare the way I live day to day in comparison to how my mother did when she was my age.

Digital Culture then is the ability to look up anything you can imagine by typing up a word and searching through results instead of spending hours in a library looking for materials.  It is being able to call anyone and everyone whenever you want or need to and having anyone and everyone contact you at any time.  It is not having to leave your home to find cute clothes to wear or even food to eat.  It’s not having to sit through commercials to watch your favourite shows.  It’s disconnecting yourself from the world and creating one of your own.  It’s being able to listen to whatever song you want or what genre you want whenever you want.  It’s being able to see other parts of the world, talk to people from all over, without having to leave your chair.  It’s all of that and it’s more.

Class is starting so maybe I’ll go in depth later.
