New York State Association of Retarded Citizens (NYSARC)

Michelle Quinell, Volunteer Coordinator,
6 Commerce Lane, Canton, NY
(315)386-3529, http://www.nysarc.org/

St. Lawrence NYSARC is a private not-for-profit agency primarily serving people
with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities.  The Agency offers
a variety of services focused on education and training, rehabilitation, clinical care,
vocational opportunities, residential options, family support, etc.  We strive toward
the principle of assisting each person with a disability in becoming independent as
possible.

Using the concept of “volunteer matching,” volunteers help “consumers”……

in a variety of fitness and recreational activities

    • as escorts for shopping or field trips
    • as educational tutors
    • as classroom aides
    • with lunches
    • in community projects
    • stablish community connections

Enthusiasm, energy and enjoying building new relationships are our only requirements.
Time commitment varies depending on the activities and interests of the volunteer.
NYSARC professional staff will provide training as needed.

Volunteers need for own transportation.
