David Brooks on Studying the Humanities

We’re back, and blogging again here at the FODYLL blog.  With the new semester starting in exactly one week, it seems like a good moment to reflect on going to university.  Back in June David Brooks published a thoughtful and worthwhile essay in the New York Times titled “History for Dollars.” Brooks stated purpose is to “…stand up for the history, English, and art classes, even in the face of today’s economic realities.”  In the course of doing this, he introduces his readers to “The Big Shaggy.” This is an excellent read, a new school year looming.
