The Asian American Man’s website posted a couple of statics that shows the lack of representation of Asian Man on media. The survey was provided by Asian American Man and was given to all different income levels, geography, citizen status as well as different age range of Asian American mans.
Following were the result…
“Asian men have adequate representation (screen time) in the media”.
– Of this survey, “93% of Asian men responded “strongly disagree” or “disagree” with the statement.
“Asian men are usually represented as attractive, fully-developed characters in media”.
– Another 95% of men responded “strongly disagree” or “disagree” with the statement.
Given the high percentage of Asian man disagree with the statement of both of these question shows that there needs to be more and better representation of Asian Americans.
Then the following men were asked, “Who is the Asian American man you most admire?”
– “Many men found it difficult to answer this question, with about a quarter of men (23%) choosing to skip answering it, and another 10% (29 men) responding with an answer like “I don’t know” or “I don’t have one”.
I think this is really sad because Asian mans should have role models that they can look up to and be admired or even inspired. Not only the lack of role model but the idea that Asian men are not attractive to the eye of media or even bankable is an issue because it sends out a negative message to all young and old Asian over the world.
