Oblique Strategies, first published by Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt in 1975, is a deck of cards containing aphorisms. Eno and Schmidt created the deck as a way to help musicians break creative blocks, however, most aphorisms are broad enough to be applied to the creative blocks of a writer, painter, etc. Some editions of the deck are still sold, but there are cards available for public viewing on the following website:

Ever since I was introduced to this website in a high school poetry class, I have frequently used the aphorisms for inspiration when writing or revising poems. They have allowed me to read my poems from different perspectives and to edit them using unconventional methods. Use them well!
